Lara C. Santiago, M.S.
Chemical/Environmental Engineer

Lara C. Santiago received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez in December 1999. During her undergraduate years she obtained substantial experience in laboratory research, working as research assistant for a Chemistry professor and a Chemical Engineer professor at her university in addition to a summer internship at Purdue University as part of the MARC/AIM Program.

After graduation Lara spent a couple of years working for a manufacturing company and then decided to go to graduate school at the University of Puerto Rico. She obtained a M.S. in Environmental Engineering, a program inside the Civil Engineering Department, under the direction of Professor Jaime Benitez in December 2004. Her master's thesis was on the evaluation of the alkaline hydrolysis as a possible remediation treatment for water contaminated with the explosive CL-20. This work was performed in collaboration with the Army Corp of Engineers at the Water Ways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After finishing her master's degree Lara has been working as a consultant offering professional services to different manufacturing companies. She has significant experience within the areas of validations, non-conformance investigations and EHS compliance.
